WEST JACKSONVILLE
90TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

We at West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church are approaching a milestone in our ministry. On February 22, 2009, we will be celebrating 90 years of ministry as a body of believers. Our celebration will begin with our worship service at 10 a.m. to be followed by food and fellowship afterwards. All past and present members are invited to come, and we are hoping to feature these folks as part of the service. They will serve as a reminder of our past blessings, and we would also be able to renew friendships. We are praying that many of our former members will be able to be with us for this celebration.

If you are a past or present member, please invite your children/relatives who might have been a part of our fellowship through the years to join us. (Rev. Logan Mullis and Rev. Christopher Hall)

World Outreach Update - February 11, 2009

Greetings to you, fellow servants. God is good and greatly to be praised! It has been a privilege to chat with Moses Angbongy of Johannesburg, South Africa. You may have heard that he has recently suffered with prostate cancer. His doctor has operated and, in a follow up meeting, shared that Moses is now cancer free. PTL! Thank you for your many prayers on his behalf. Moses reports that the new AC work in Port Elizabeth is going well. He has been careful to disciple a leader there, and the congregation continues to meet in his absence. Moses will be flying down to Port Elizabeth to encourage the people and to evaluate the situation. Pray for his trip. Discipleship is key to AC efforts worldwide.

A Word From the Executive Director - February 11, 2009
Two times a year, the Executive Council of Advent Christian General Conference is required to meet. Almost always, these meetings are held in Charlotte, N.C., at the denomination’s offices. The exception would be during the year of a triennial session, when one of the two meetings is held in conjunction with the convention and on site. For the last several days we have been preparing for the meetings with our regional superintendents and Executive Council members. More than 100 pages of reports have been delivered electronically to each one attending as well as printed for distribution. Nearly 20 people have arrived at different times, traveling from the four corners of the continental U.S. And now, we find ourselves right in the middle of the week of meetings.

IF Update - February 11, 2009

A few months ago, I purchased a GPS device that I use regularly throughout my travel as the Director of Nurture. I must tell you that this has been a very helpful tool for me, especially as I try to navigate toward my destination, whether it’s in the middle of a city like Chicago, Ill., or out in the country where many of our churches are located.

It’s quite common for the GPS to respond to my driving mistakes by declaring, “recalculating,” a phrase that I welcome when I get off-course. I am not troubled by this phrase as it’s a sign that help is on the way. I realize through this experience that if I am patient I can get back on track and ultimately find my destination without too much delay.

McAlpin Church receives Organ Transplant
On Sunday, February 1, the McAlpin Advent Christian Church received a gift of an organ to replace the one that “deceased” in January. Mrs. Dede Stoddard, (pictured third from left) graciously donated her late mother's organ after hearing of the congregation's need. She said, "Every day I have increased joy that you folks have the organ that my mom used to play in the little village of Crouseville, Maine." Her mother, Mrs. Josephine Stoddard, was a church organist for 45 years. A prayer of dedication was offered by the Rev. Jack Jones who is the chaplain at the Good Samaritan nursing facility at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park and president of the Florida Conference. A luncheon prepared by the youth group followed the worship service.
