IF Update - February 25, 2009

There’s a movie in the theaters right now called “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” The theme of this movie is clearly heard in the title. Now, I’m not a shopaholic, as you have to have extra money to shop, but there is one thing that I am; I am a football fan!

During this past week, hundreds of college football players have converged on Indianapolis, Indiana, for what is known as the NFL combine tryouts. These men are run through some very intensive drills and interviewed in detail in an attempt to prove themselves as worthy NFL prospects. Careers are won and lost during the combine. In many cases, the failure to perform well has doomed the hopes of many for playing in the NFL. On the other hand, there are those players that we might call “sleepers” because no one knew that they would perform so well and get an opportunity of a lifetime, simply because they did well when it counted.

BIG SKI 2009

BIG SKI is an annual event organized by SACA Youth Ministries, which is directed by Joe Pritchett. This year Big Ski was held February 5 - 8 in Princeton, West Virginia. This is the major youth event of the winter for the students of the Southern Region and typically draws more than 300 students and youth sponsors. We had more than 325 participating this year as we gathered in Princeton, which is conveniently located near the Winterplace Ski Resort.

The weekend featured three worship services. Bob Copeland, senior pastor of the Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks, N.C., was the speaker for the general sessions. A popular evangelist and youth speaker, Bob's energy-filled messages encouraged and challenged everyone. At least three students accepted Christ as their Savior during the weekend, with several others expressing a recommitment of their faith.

Dawn Rutan Appointed Director

The financial services of ACGC have been a part of the responsibilities assigned to the Department of Operations, formerly recognized as the Department of Services. In the last few years, the complexities of this element of service have required more focus and attention, due to the increasing requirements associated with accounting practices. More and more is being expected of us by our auditors, IRS and ECFA, as we strive to be in compliance with the current standards, laws and codes governing our financial operations. At the same time, the duties of the financial officer continue to increase because of our growing financial operations outside the United States.

Grant Aldridge
Retirement announcement

ACGC announces that Grant Aldridge, the Business Manager at Oro Bible College (OBC) in the Philippines, will be moving home to New Zealand to retire on April 2. We are so grateful for his years of service and wish him the best as he moves into this new phase of his life.

With nearly 40 years in the New Zealand education system, as a classroom teacher and administrator, Grant was able to bring a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to his next workplace, the mission field. He joined our staff at Oro Bible College in the Philippines in 2002 and immediately became an invaluable part of the team.
