“Picture a fire truck and you are likely to see red – fire engine red. But when it comes to safety, human factors and ergonomics research paints a different picture. Much of human factors and ergonomics research relies upon psychological research done on human visual and auditory perception. This research shows that because the color-transmitting cones in our eyes don’t work well in the dark, some colors are easier for us to see at night. We are most sensitive to greenish-yellow colors under dim conditions, making lime shades easiest to see in dim lighting.”

I recently finished a book that was given to me by a friend many of you have met. Mr. Michael Owen, Church Initiatives Director for World Vision has been with us at the last two triennial conventions, addressed the general session and has led workshops as well. Mike sent me the book, “The Hole in Our Gospel,” written by World Vision President Richard Stearns. This is one of those books that I feel is a “must read” for every pastor, anyone who has a passion for missions, and everyone who carries a burden for the poor and the lost. It’s an autobiography, a collection of personal stories and a candid and raw confession of his comfortableness in his “Christian” bubble, which was threatened by God’s call on his life.

REV. JACK JONES TO PREACH AT MCALPIN ADVENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH
On the Sundays of June 21 and 28, the Rev. Jack Jones will be preaching at the 10:55 a.m. services. Rev. Jack Jones is the chaplain for assisted living and nursing home care at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park. He and his wife, Connie, have served Advent Christian pastorates in Maine and North Carolina and as foreign missionaries in New Zealand and Japan. Pastor Jack is currently the president of the Florida Conference of Advent Christian Churches. His wife, Connie, will serve as pianist through September 13. They have four married children and nine grandchildren. The Rev. Ron Wong will lead the worship services and teach the adult Christian Life classes in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 a.m. Vacation Bible School for the area children will be the first week in August and is under the direction of Kimberly Wong. Pastor Paul A. Bertolino stated, "We have a lot going on for a small country church, and residents in the area are welcome to join us for any of our services and special programs. During the summer months, for any visiting guest, we will give them the book, 'Resurrection Hope,' written by the Rev. Dr. David Dean." The church is located at 17214 89th Road in McAlpin, Florida.
